Gratitude is my attitude

As I reflect on this month of the blooming Jacaranda trees and the birth anniversary of my youngest child so much has happened to open my heart in ways I had no idea it could. I am intrigued how life continues to weave beauty in the pain. These past 5 years have been intense to say the least and I have found immense solace and strength in a simple yet profound mantra: “Gratitude is my attitude.” This shift in perspective has not only transformed the way I navigate the many challenges in my life, it has also allowed me to find the magic, the light and the love in myself as I continue moving forward in my journey of powerful personal growth.

Gratitude is not just a fleeting emotion; it’s a mindset, a conscious choice to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than dwelling on what may be lacking or challenging. Embracing gratitude as my attitude has been a transformative experience that has unfolded gradually, like the petals of a blooming flower. And there really is always something to be grateful for. This morning I struggled waking up for my morning routine as I usually rise with the sun and today it was cloudy and no sun peaking through the window. Yet greeting this moment still with the same excitement with the thought “yay I woke up today I am here” and went for a swim in the rain. So still and beautiful, I felt the power of gratitude and the wave of energy that it carried to propel me forward.

One of the key realisations on this life walk for me is the power of perspective. Life is a tapestry woven with threads of joy and sorrow, success and failure, love and loss. It’s easy to become fixated on the darker threads, allowing them to overshadow the vibrant hues of the full expression of life. It is important to remember that the darkness and the light work together. Neither is good or bad, it just IS. And in that knowledge is the full expression of life, that is where Gratitude acts as a lens through which I can refocus my gaze, appreciating the beauty of every moment.

I have been through many dark days and experienced so many painful events, and I still have so much more to experience in life, it is not the end! When people ask me “Where do I get my strength from?” I realised that I have always instinctively known that everything is transitory and the medicine of Gratitude is that it brings you into the present moment. And in moments of adversity, gratitude becomes a lifeline. Instead of succumbing to the weight of challenges, I’ve learned to pause and reflect on the lessons they bring. Every setback, every obstacle, is an opportunity for growth and resilience. This perspective has not only helped me weather storms but has also allowed me to emerge stronger and more resilient on the other side. I no longer ask the question “why?” something is happening, rather “what is it trying to show me?” and in that unfolding I feel the potency of gratitude.

Let me clarify that I am not engaging in toxic positivity here. Gratitude is not about denying the existence of difficulties; rather, it’s about choosing to focus on the aspects of our lives that bring us joy, comfort, and strength. This doesn’t mean ignoring pain or suppressing negative emotions; rather, it’s an invitation to embrace a holistic perspective that acknowledges both the challenges and the blessings. This is the way in which l continue showing up and moving with the tides. There is bliss in the ALL of my experiences. As the space between tension and release is where I find the most expansion and connection with myself and others.

The beauty of gratitude is its simplicity. It doesn’t require grand gestures or elaborate rituals. It thrives in the quiet moments of reflection, in the handwritten note expressing thanks, and in the conscious decision to savor the present. As I’ve integrated gratitude into my daily life, I’ve witnessed a subtle yet profound shift in my overall well-being. The stressors that once seemed insurmountable now appear as opportunities for resilience. The mundane moments have become infused with a sense of wonder, and even the routine tasks carry a sense of purpose.

“Gratitude is my attitude” a philosophy that has shaped my outlook on life. It’s a reminder to find joy in the ordinary, strength in adversity, and connection in relationships. This journey of embracing gratitude has not only transformed the way I perceive the world but has also become a compass guiding me towards a more fulfilling and meaningful existence. As I continue to navigate the ebb and flow of life, gratitude remains my steadfast companion, illuminating the path with its gentle glow.
